What is the retina?
The retina is an extremely thin, neurosensory tissue that lines the inside of the back of the eye.
How does it work ?
The light image is focused onto the retina by the cornea and lens. This light striking the retina causes a complex biochemical changes within layers of the retina and in turn, stimulates an electrical response . These signals are transmitted to the brain through optic nerve where processing takes place and allow us to see.
What are the common diseases of retina ?
Retinal detatchment
Retinal vascular diseases e.g. Diabetic retinopathy, Hypertensive Retinopathy, Venous occlusions, Arterial occlusions etc
Macular disorders e.g. ARMD, CSCR, CNVM etc.
Vitreous Haemorrhage
Retained intraocular foreign body
Anterior segment complications e.g Subluxated lens. Dropped Nucleus, Dropped IOL, Endophthalmitis etc.
How are these managed?
These can be managed by both medical treatment & Surgical treatment depending upon the stage of presentation and type of disease

Fundoscopy, Fundus photography
